About & contact

InspectorGeneral.net is an independent repository of scholarly information related to federal Inspectors General, their institutional histories, establishment dates, statutory structures, oversight authorities, special IG roles, and cross-IG institutions.

This is not an official Inspector General or Virginia Tech resource.

Who maintains this site

Dean Lefor

I am a doctoral student in the PhD in Public Administration and Public Affairs program. I maintain InspectorGeneral.net as a public-facing scholarly reference for researchers, practitioners, students, and anyone trying to understand the federal Inspector General system over time.

The site is meant to make institutional history easier to inspect: when an office was created, how it fits into the IG Act framework, whether it has law enforcement authority, whether it should be counted as an active standing OIG, and where historical details remain complicated or uncertain.

Counts on the homepage follow the methods taxonomy: active standing OIGs are counted separately from historical offices, temporary special IGs, special-purpose roles, councils, committees, data systems, and training infrastructure.
